Charlestown 50th Anniversary
Open House, Sat Sep 9, 2023 1-4pm at the Wisner-Rapp House at 3032 Yellow Springs Rd, Malvern, PA
Please join your friends and neighbors to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Charlestown Historical Society. Everyone is encouraged to bring memories, stories and even tall tales of Charletown life to share with all. For those families new to Charlestown, come learn about the wonderful township we all enjoy. The Wisner-Rapp House will be open and refreshments will be available from 1-4pm on Sep 9.
Our Society was started in 1973 by a small group of people, including Stinson Markley, Frank Young and Ray Ott, who were interested in preserving Charlestown History and making this available to all through historical records and artifacts. Over time, there have been many dedicated volunteers who have served as officers, board members, and organizers of our collections. Our “headquarters” house, dating to the 1700s and 1830s, was donated to CHS by E. Baker Pyle in 1977, and was completely restored (from what was essentially a ruin) in 1979. The house now contains our collection of archives and information on the Charlestown area, and serves as a meeting place for our dedicated Tuesday morning group, who help with maintaining our collections.
