Speaking will be Tammy Schane, an author and historian from Doylestown, PA whose specialty is tombstone symbols, their meaning and the history of these symbols. 19th century society took their mourning and remembrance of the dead seriously and had many different symbols for their grief and memories carved on the marble and granite tombstones of their loved ones. While some of the symbols still accurately translate today, many of them have meanings hidden to modern society. Tammy has documented thousand of examples of tombstone symbols and will share some of the more common ones that can still be seen in 19th century cemeteries today
