We are excited that six Great Valley High School seniors will be awarded scholarships from the Charlestown Historical Society in honor of Stinson and Katherine D. Markley.
In 1995, the “Katherine D. Markley Scholarship”, was created with funds from the sale of the Stinson Markley property in Royersford, PA. Each year, $500 is awarded from this fund.
In 2017, the “Stinson and Katherine D. Markley Memorial Scholarship funded by the Charlestown Historical Society” was created with funds from the sale of the Markley property in Charlestown Township. Each year, starting in May 2017, five $2000 scholarships will be awarded including two for students pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields, one for nursing, one for fine arts and one for vocational training.
The scholarship funds will be administered by GVSD and will provide for at least 25 years of awards.
Very nice, Darlene.

Pete and I are thrilled that with our purchase of this unique, historic property the Charlestown Historical Society was able establish this wonderful scholarship. Being the daughter of an elementary school administrator and teacher, education has always been important to my family and me. Now that our children are a part of GVSD I am so happy that we were able to, though indirectly, be a catalyst for the creation of this scholarship fund that will help other GVSD students follow their educational dreams. I’m sure Stinson and Katherine Markley would wholeheartedly approve.
Thanks, Katie!
